This setting does not have the traditional fantasy races since it is on a world very similar to our own. The races which exist in Hikryela are Human, Wildlings, and Ancients, though each race has several unique subraces..
These are the normal inhabitants of the region. They do not have any magical ability and as such cannot take Arcane Backgrounds for their free edge.
These are those who are “blessed” with the ability to perform the healing arts. Their bloodline can be traced back to the family of “Light” from the past. Their distinguishing feature is represented by choosing Arcane Background (Miracles) as their free edge. Since they work with miracles, they cannot use their power for destruction. They cannot take any “offensive” powers.
These are those who are “cursed” with the ability to bring destruction. They frequently discover their powers accidentally and destruction tends to follow them. Their bloodline can be traced back to the family of “Dark” from the past. They are generally shunned by society. Their distinguishing feature is represented by choosing Arcane Background (Magic) as their free edge. They cannot cast the following spells: boost trait, environmental protection, healing, speak language, succor, or other powers which “heal” or “improve”. Their magic only brings destruction and deception.
These strange invaders come from another world though they are similar in appearance to the native inhabitants.
These creatures are more animal than man, living in the wilds. It is unknown where their bloodline originated from, it is known not to be the blood of the “Line” though it is believed to be as old as the three ancients.
Because they are more animal than man, any “monstrous” creature is typically called a Wildling. There are in fact many different types present in the world, each with unique abilities.
Though rare, sometimes a Wildling is born to human parents. In these instances something is just not right about the child, but no one can really put their finger on it. As such they suffer from being an outsider in society though they may also discover themselves to have unique abilities. Mechanically they have a base value of D6 for spirit and low light vision. They also have the outsider hindrance. They do not get a free edge.
One of the evils known to the world is the Darklings. These monstrous wildlings come in various shapes and sizes, though most have wings and all have bat-like features.
Goblins are small forest dwelling creatures. They are known to be capable with magic and can have the Arcane background for Magic or Miracles. They are not subject to the Blessed/Blighted restrictions. More information is available in post4.
Minotaurs are a brutal race of wildlings. They are easily identifiable by their horns and imposing build. They have bull like features, muscular build, and typically grow to be over 7 feet tall. More information can be found here.
The ancient races are those who were around when the world was young. As far as is known they no longer exist.
This ancient race existed when the world was first born and has since disappeared. Little is known of them, and the remaining signs of their presence are exclusively in hard to reach mountains.
